Education and School Law

Our attorneys are recognized as among the most knowledgeable in the state on education law matters. ELPO represents more than 20 Kentucky school districts, providing advice on human resources, student issues, discipline and other legal matters. We also provide interpretation of federal and state laws applicable to educational entities, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Age and Discrimination in Employment Act, First Amendment, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related claims. We defend school districts in a variety of litigation matters, including employment, student, First Amendment and other claims in federal and state courts.

We also provide training on a number of legal issues for superintendents, principals and other school administrators. Attorneys from ELPO conduct annual training for the Office of Leadership and School Improvement of the Kentucky Department of Education. Every new superintendent in the state is required to attend the workshop as part of their training for their new position.
