David W. Anderson
Counsel
Education comes in many forms. For David Anderson, he learned much about the world while working in a country hardware store. “I learned a lot about people and things like plumbing and electrical fixtures, and I still use some of that in my work today,” David says. “If we have a client who has had an electrical fire, I know what they’re talking about when they talk about a circuit breaker.”
David continued with jobs that taught him a lot through college. He drove a Head Start school bus. “That was fun,” David says. “I told the kids they could do anything they wanted as long as they didn’t fight. We all started singing on the bus every day, and the mothers told us they could hear us coming two blocks away.”
David is still known for his hard work and upbeat attitude. At ELPO, his research and writing talents are a great asset, as he often writes briefs and does research for other attorneys. The ability to research online and through databases has revolutionized his job, making the task of finding supporting case law much easier.
Much of David’s practice focuses on business and other civil litigation, where he counsels clients regarding avoiding litigation, litigation strategy and settlement and conducts pre-trial proceedings and trials in federal and state courts. He also defends governmental entities in civil rights litigation and has experience in insurance coverage matters.
David represents school districts in teacher and student disciplinary matters and provides advice on compliance with applicable laws and regulations. He advises health care providers on compliance with various federal and state laws and regulations. He also handles appeals in the federal and state courts.
David is married and lives in a historic home built in 1926 in the College Hill Historic District. He has two grown step-children.
