Jessica R. Surber
Jessica Surber is an accomplished attorney who works primarily on nursing home abuse and neglect, personal injury, medical malpractice and product liability cases.
Jessica’s primary responsibility is working with those who are injured and their families, including those injured or killed in automobile accidents. “When you or someone you love is injured, there are lots of decisions to be made concerning their care,” Jessica says. “A good attorney can relieve the burden of reviewing insurance policies, finding police reports and handling other similar issues for the family as the person goes through the recovery process. We’re by their side every step of the way.”
Her work also involves handling cases involving medical malpractice, and those that involve defective medical devices or dangerous drugs. She handles cases that involve prescription medication, including cases against the makers of Actos, Levaquin, Xarelto and many others.
In the medical device field, Jessica has handled many cases against the manufacturers of metal-on-metal hip replacements, which have become widely criticized for poor design. She is also handling lawsuits against the makers of several hernia mesh products, which are used in open and laparoscopic procedures during hernia repair surgeries.
She considers it part of her work to keep constantly updated on developments in the law. “In our field, you are constantly learning,” she says. “It’s important to keep up-to-date on recent court decisions, changes to state laws and technological advances that can help you serve as a better advocate for your clients.”
Community service is important to Jessica. She serves on the Board of Governors for the Kentucky Justice Association, an organization dedicated to protecting the 7th Amendment and the rights of Kentucky residents. She graduated from the Leadership Bowling Green program, and has served on the Western Kentucky University Young Alumni Council and the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross of South Central Kentucky. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association, and currently serving on the board of Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky. She recently graduated from Elevate Kentucky, a program run by Leadership Kentucky for young leaders in the Commonwealth.
Jessica has an undergraduate degree in accounting from Western Kentucky University and a law degree from the University of Kentucky. She is a native of Franklin, Kentucky, and lives in Bowling Green.
