Overview

Beth McKinney began her professional life as an accountant. She enjoyed the work but wanted the opportunity to work with her clients more closely and develop longer-term relationships with them. She decided to go to law school and has chosen an area of law that combines both accounting and law: estate planning and probate.

“Accounting was a wonderful background to have for my career in law,” Beth says. “It’s served me very well. I’ve enjoyed the practice of law, especially working with clients. There is a large financial component to what I do, and it’s very helpful to understand the tax and financial ramifications of estate planning.”

Besides estate planning, wills, probate and taxation, Beth works with business clients, such as corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships with a variety of business and corporate issues. She has advised numerous new business owners with respect to the choice of the entity formed for new businesses. In addition, she has represented business owners in the transition and continuation of closely held businesses in the preparation of asset purchase agreements, buy-sell agreements, shareholder or stock restriction agreements and other business succession planning matters.

With over 25 years’ experience, Beth had a private practice before joining ELPO.  She enjoys the law firm environment and appreciates working with the experienced staff and outstanding attorneys at ELPO. ELPO’s strong commitment to the community was one of the biggest draws for Beth. “This is a firm that isn’t just about work,” Beth says. “ELPO encourage attorneys and staff to become involved in the community and makes a big commitment to making South Central Kentucky a better place to live.”

A native of Lewisburg, Kentucky, Beth serves as the Chairman of the Board of Lewisburg Banking Company.  She lives in Bowling Green.
