ELPO staff helps with United Way Day of Caring

Attorneys and staff from ELPO volunteered with the United Way of Southern Kentucky‘s Day of Caring on July 26 at Barren River Area Safe Space (BRASS).
Volunteers trimmed and cleaned up landscaping, weeded and trimmed in the peace garden and did other needed maintenance tasks. ELPO volunteers each year for the Day of Caring, which is a structured volunteer opportunity that provides participants with a peek at volunteering. As part of the Day of Caring, businesses make a commitment to offer their employees a chance to “step away from their desks” to provide hands-on, volunteer labor for a wide variety of projects. Team participation in the Day of Caring aids in building camaraderie and goodwill among employees while also helping the community.
The Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. is a regional domestic violence 26-bed shelter and program, founded in 1980 by a group of seven Warren County Citizens, to serve the community’s need to provide emergency shelter and support services to victims of domestic violence and their children. The Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. is accredited by the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association, and was one of the first six Kentucky domestic violence shelters to form the Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
The agency provides services to residents of the ten county Barren River Area Development District, and serves a large rural population. Counties of service include Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren. BRASS, Inc. also accepts referrals from across the state and nation.
