Court decision on guns at work favorable to employers

by Mandy Hicks

A recent decision U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky was favorable to employers on the issue of guns in employee vehicles.

The employer had a policy which permitted employees to keep guns in their vehicles in the employer’s parking lot but required them to disclose the presence of the gun on a weapons approval form.

An employee who was disciplined for not completing the required form filed suit. The court dismissed the claims since the policy did not prohibit employees from keeping weapons in their vehicles. It just required employees to disclose the gun’s existence.

ELPO can help your company create a policy on weapons on work premises and also help you create a form for employees to report the presence of a gun in vehicles.
