ELPO Law Attorney John S. West Appointed to American Arbitration Association
by Ashley Carter
English, Lucas, Priest & Owsley, LLP (ELPO Law) is pleased to announce that attorney John West has been appointed to the American Arbitration Association. The not-for-profit American Arbitration Association (AAA)-International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) is the largest private global provider of alternative dispute resolution services in the world. The AAA was founded in 1926 following enactment of the Federal Arbitration Act, with the specific goal of helping to implement arbitration as an out-of-court solution to resolving disputes. While it administered international commercial disputes as early as 1951, the AAA formally established the ICDR as its international arm in 1996.
The AAA-ICDR roster of arbitrators and mediators is composed of distinguished former judges and leaders in the legal and business communities with industry-specific knowledge and expertise. Arbitrators and mediators are not employees or contractors of the AAA-ICDR, which maintains an arms-length relationship with its panelists. AAA-ICDR staff members, arbitrators, and mediators are held to strict principles of integrity (fairness and impartiality), conflict management, service, and diversity and inclusion.
West currently serves as Senior Counsel with ELPO Law. He is a seasoned trial attorney with three decades of litigation experience. Throughout the past thirty years, West has been committed to professional excellence and primarily focused his legal career on environmental law issues involving water, air, waste management and natural resources. West is a nationally recognized labor arbitrator, presiding over and resolving labor disputes in both the public and private sector. He has been listed with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service since 1993. In addition to this latest appointment, West was also inducted to the Kentucky Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN) for 2024.
West had this to say of his recent appointment, “I am deeply honored to be accepted in the American Arbitration Association. This esteemed organization plays a vital role in promoting fairness and justice in dispute resolution and I am extremely grateful to be acknowledged among such distinguished peers.”
West is a graduate of Purdue University and The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law.
