ELPO sponsors Commonwealth Health Foundation Charity Ball

by Mandy Hicks

Each year, the Commonwealth Health Foundation holds a charity ball to support the Commonwealth Health Free Clinic. ELPO regularly serves as one of the sponsors of the ball to help raise funds for the clinic, which meets critical medical needs.

The ball is set for Nov. 16 at the Sloan Convention Center, beginning at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by a formal dinner at 7:30 p.m. and entertainment and dancing at 9 p.m.

All of the money raised by ticket sales and an auction at the event funds the medical clinic and the dental clinic. Last year’s ball raised $180,000 for the two clinics.

The charity ball’s impact

In 2012, Commonwealth Health Free Clinic had more than 2,400 medical encounters and dental encounters that totaled almost 5,000.  This equates to approximately 3,000 individual patients served over the course of the year. Of this number, 922 were new patients seen at the Clinic for the first time. These are those in our community who have nowhere else to turn for medical and dental services. Additionally, because of donations from many sources, the Free Clinic was able to provide maintenance medication to hundreds of patients. Last year, 8,244 prescriptions were filled.  This does not even take into account the timeless hours volunteers provided for the operation of the Clinic and services to its patients.
