J.A. Sowell is a partner at ELPO Law, where he represents individuals, businesses, municipalities, and property owners across Kentucky in a broad range of civil litigation and advisory matters. Since joining the firm as an associate attorney in August 2017, Mr. Sowell has built a practice focused on delivering practical, results-oriented counsel tailored to the needs of his clients.
A native of Bowling Green, Mr. Sowell is passionate about serving the southcentral Kentucky community and providing trusted legal representation to clients facing complex disputes and day-to-day legal challenges alike.
Mr. Sowell earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, cum laude, from Western Kentucky University in 2013. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.
His practice includes personal injury litigation involving motor vehicle accidents, slip-and-fall claims, and premises liability matters – representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He also regularly handles defense litigation for municipalities and governmental entities across Kentucky, including counties, sheriff’s departments, and jails, along with defending electric utility and telecommunication companies.
In addition, Mr. Sowell advises business owners in commercial and business litigation matters, assists clients with contract drafting and dispute resolution, represents landlords in landlord-tenant matters, and handles collections litigation.
Since 2019, Mr. Sowell has served on the Board of Directors for The Salvation Army of Bowling Green, reflecting his longstanding commitment to community service and civic leadership in the Southcentral Kentucky area. Mr. Sowell has been recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® for his work in Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants and Plaintiffs and Corporate Law from 2021-2026.
